GONE RETREATIN'
Hey church,
As you've hopefully heard, we'll be away this weekend and NOT gathering at Jammin' Java on Sunday morning. We'll be on our annual (and, as a matter of fact, 10th anniversary!) church retreat at the Shrine Mont retreat center in the mountains of western Virginia. It's probably too late to get in on the official lodging, but if you want to come and hang out with us on Saturday,
contact us for the deets!
But that's not all! A faithful remnant will be staying in this area and making our monthly Karaoke Night at the Lamb Center happen once again! We'll begin with setup starting at 6pm Friday evening, then pizza and singing at 6:30, and wrapping up at 8pm. It's at
The Lamb Center, the only daytime drop-in center for homeless folks within Fairfax County, off Fairfax Circle and not far from the Vienna Metro. Join us for fun, fellowship, and joy!
That's all for now. See you next week, when we'll be DOUBLE DIGITS old!! :-D
Peace,
Mike Croghan
Hi church!
This weekend is the fourth weekend of the month, so instead of gathering Sunday morning at Jammin' Java, we'll be gathering Saturday afternoon for a service-worship project at our friend Linda's in Herndon. It'll be a follow-up to the project we did there a couple of months ago, when we patched some holes in her wall and did some yard work.
When: Saturday, 27 August, starting at high noon
What: Yard work, plus sanding, painting, and possibly patching holes in inside walls.
Who: You! (Hopefully.) If you have questions or would like to help out,
contact us!
Looking ahead, we'll be away from Jammin' Java again next weekend - we'll be off to the mountains for our 10th Anniversary Retreat!
Enjoy the hints of cooler weather folks - and God bless!
Peace,
Mike Croghan
This week, we will gather at Jammin' Java to sing together some of the greatest hymns of all times. Our gifted musicians and vocalists will help lead us as you suggest the songs we will sing and play together. Many of us have memories or meaningful experiences or stories attached with singing hymns, so be thinking about what story you might like to share.
If you were considering joining us on our church retreat at Shrine Mont over Labor Day weekend (come on, you know you want to!), the deadline to let us know is this Sunday (in two days).
Looking ahead, next Sunday (August 28th) is our final Sunday of the month and we will
not be meeting at Jammin' Java. We have several service worship projects that we are looking to complete. Stay tuned for more information!
Our next Congregational Meeting will take place on Saturday, September 24. Put it on your calendar. We'll have a pot luck lunch together after the meeting. Child care will be provided.
Hope to see you Sunday!
Jackie
Hi church,
Sorry for the late notice! We
will be meeting at
Jammin' Java tomorrow morning at 10am, with a "
midrash" service in which several of us bring personal - perhaps conflicting? - takes on
this week's lectionary readings. Please join us and lend your own voice to the mix!
Peace,
Mike Croghan
Howdy, family!! Hope you've had a splendid week and are ready for another fun-filled weekend. Here's the 411 on Common Table Activities for the next coupla days:
- Saturday (tomorrow), August 6 from 9am to noon-ish we will be assisting our friend Eric Hanemann from New Hope clean up an outdoor space that he's set up for his homeless friends. The space includes some land cleared out for tents as well as a lovely, rugged open air "chapel" space. The work will involve raking out leaves, cutting up some fallen trees with handsaws, collecting and hauling off trash, and building a natural shelter out of the fallen trees and leaves.
We'll be meeting in the parking lot of
Fairfax Community Church (they've given their blessing to our parking there) at 9am tomorrow morning. Bring water, gloves, Deep Woods Off, and The Love. If you have any small tarps or a rake, those would also be appreciated.
- Sunday (the day after Saturday) we'll be gathering again at
Jammin' Java for a time of worship. Our own Chris Rackley-- an art teacher in his past life and a student of art currently-- has been inspired by a Lectionary reading from Romans 12, and he'll be inspiring us with his thoughts about imagination, fantasy, and the transformation of our world. Hope you can join us at 10am.
Thanks!
